The Saint Helena Distillery, the most remote in the world, is owned and run by Paul and Sally Hickling and is located at Bayview, Alarm Forest which overlooks Seaview and is six hundred meters above sea level, ideal conditions for fermentation and distillation.
Since 2006, the distillery has been distilling the infamous “Tungi” spirit, made from local prickly pears picked by hand from the Cactus trees growing wild here on Saint Helena.
Other products produced at the distillery include a Spiced Rum, namely “White Lion” (Witte Leouw) after the Dutch Spice ship that was sunk in James Bay in 1613 by the Portuguese, which happened to be carrying valuable spices and Ming Porcelain amongst other things…
Jamestown Gin is made from locally grown Bermuda Juniper that only grows on Bermuda and here on the Island, making it very special. Midnight Mist is a Coffee Liqueur made from the rare award-winning Saint Helena Coffee bought here originally from Yemen in 1733.
When visiting Saint Helena, the distillery is open for tours, just call +290 24210 to make an appointment, or you could contact us prior to your arrival.
